ChatGPT Ads for PrestaShop stores – how to get started in Europe

5 min read Other languages: PL FR

Since late August 2026, European online shops can buy product ads in ChatGPT. OpenAI opened its self-serve Ads Manager in 31 markets – the European Economic Area and Switzerland. There is one condition: a correct product feed in OpenAI's format. Here is how it works, why products get rejected and how to prepare a PrestaShop store.

Free results and ads are two different routes

Products can reach ChatGPT in two ways, and it pays not to mix them up.

In Ads Manager a feed is added in one of three ways: uploading a CSV or TXT file, giving a stable HTTPS address (Hosted URL) or via SFTP. It is not a Google feed and not XML. OpenAI has its own field specification, with ad fields such as is_ads_eligible on top.

  • Items expire after two weeks. A file uploaded once stops working, which is why OpenAI recommends a URL or SFTP.
  • During the beta, feed products are used for ads only. The feed does not add them to free results – those still depend on a good Google feed and structured data on the product page.

Ads are shown to users of the free ChatGPT plans (Free and Go). The purchase always happens in your shop: in March 2026 OpenAI withdrew buying directly in the chat (Instant Checkout).

Why products get rejected

Uploading a feed does not advertise the whole catalogue. A product must be complete, available and pass review. In a PrestaShop store the problems usually come from data, not technology.

ProblemResultWhat it looks like in PrestaShop
No brandItem rejected – brand is requiredProduct without a manufacturer
No descriptionItem rejectedEmpty description and summary
No image or price 0Item rejectedUnfinished product enabled by mistake
URLs without HTTPSFeed not acceptedShop without SSL enabled
Invalid EANCode rejectedWrong check digit, 10 or 11 digits, spaces in the code
Same EAN on several variantsThe assistant mixes up variantsCombinations without their own EAN
HTML or “lorem ipsum” in the descriptionWeak match to questionsDescription pasted from a template
Description too shortProduct matches shopper questions less oftenOne sentence instead of use, material and size

The last two rows do not block the ad, but they decide whether ChatGPT treats the product as an answer to the shopper's question. The assistant matches products to questions in natural language, so the description matters more here than in Google Shopping.

EAN codes of the wrong length – in products and combinations – take one query to find. SQL will not catch a wrong check digit; that needs a validator.

SELECT id_product, 0 AS id_product_attribute, ean13 FROM ps_product
WHERE ean13 <> '' AND LENGTH(ean13) NOT IN (8, 12, 13)
UNION ALL
SELECT id_product, id_product_attribute, ean13 FROM ps_product_attribute
WHERE ean13 <> '' AND LENGTH(ean13) NOT IN (8, 12, 13);

Step by step: ChatGPT Ads for a PrestaShop store

  1. Enable HTTPS. Shop Parameters > General > SSL. Product pages and images must be public and served over HTTPS.
  2. Fill in the required data. Every product needs a name, description, brand, image and a price above zero. Selling your own products? Assign them your own brand.
  3. Fix EAN codes. Each combination should have its own valid EAN-13 from the packaging.
  4. Prepare a CSV feed in the OpenAI specification. One item per combination, with variant options, price in the shop currency, target country and return policy.
  5. Verify your business in ChatGPT Ads Manager. Campaigns cannot start without it.
  6. Add the feed as a Hosted URL. Paste the stable feed address and pick the same countries as in the feed. Ads Manager will keep it refreshed.
  7. Create a campaign from the product feed. Targeting works at country level, and product filters narrow the products.

Steps 2–4 take the most time because they cover the whole catalogue. With a thousand products, checking every product page by hand is not realistic.

Frequently asked questions

Can I upload my Google feed to ChatGPT Ads?

Not directly. Ads Manager takes a file in the OpenAI specification. The fields are similar, but names and requirements differ – for example item_id instead of id, and brand and seller name are mandatory.

What about an XML feed?

Ads Manager takes a CSV or TXT file. An XML feed only makes sense when an intermediary company runs the integration.

Will the feed put my products in regular ChatGPT answers?

No. During the beta the Ads Manager feed is used for ads only. Free results depend on data OpenAI collects itself, including from Google Merchant Center.

Can the customer buy inside the chat?

No. A click leads to your shop and the order goes through the normal PrestaShop checkout.

Product Data Guardian 1.18 checks every product against the ChatGPT Ads requirements and shows what to fix first. It also generates a ready CSV feed for Ads Manager – with variants, target countries and return policy – and leaves out products that would be rejected. The same module builds the Google Shopping and Meta feeds, so you fix the data once for every channel.
